What It’s Like

What’s it like to have five children?

I’d like to share how having many children is a blessing and a joy to us as parents. My husband and I recount daily how beautiful and fun our children are and we’re still recounting it eight years going on nine years. Though parenting is inconvenient or challenging or too much for some, it is by God’s grace we are where we are and we are who we are. We love our life that we have built!

Having five children is beautiful and breath-taking at times: to have such abundance of joy and laughter can lift my spirits high, and on the other hand: having five children is madness and messy! I find that I have to tell myself daily that I accept the mess in this season. Our home doesn’t look at any other persons home, so do not compare or pile on guilt.

What’s it like having children five children ages eight and under? It’s pretty cool at times. We have four daughters and our last, bookend, is a son. Our girls are extremely well-behaved and kind and helpful, and when they act their age and throw fits or fuss, we have to remind ourselves they are only 8, or 7, or 5, or 2. We love our children dearly. We love how adorable they are and love being their parents and friends.

Having a large family means living content and living with less and in little space. We are fortunate to have so much that we do: so many children, two cars, we own our home, we have community and good friends and in laws nearby. While we do not have much room to stretch or our children a room to call their own, our kids are pretty good buddies. One day, we found them playing with one another for about four hours then they hit capacity.

So, what’s it like to have a large family? It’s a lot of things! We have ups and downs, good and bad days, and there are moments where we tap out but tag team…

Parenting is such a gift. We have been honored to have these five for the years God has gifted us. My prayer is that we will continue to cherish our children, play and have fun, train and teach them the way they should go.

God’s grace is sufficient for us to be the husband and wife to one another. God’s grace is sufficient for us to be the parents to these five individuals and to God be the glory!

Blessings, friends.

Life can be full of hope and abundance; I am certain we can find it because the life we want and desire: Jesus came to give us life and we can have it abundantly! A little about me: I am a wife, first. Next, I am a mama to five children; my husband and I have four daughters and son! I love to connect and talk about things of God and look for beauty in life.
