“God is our refuge and strength” are penned in Psalm chapter 46 verse 1… In the International Children’s Version written for easy understanding it says: God is our protection and our strength. He always helps in times of trouble.
Where is a mom of five to go to renew and refresh?
Shall I grab a cup of coffee?
Shall I hide in the bathroom?
I seek and wonder and ask myself…”Who knows me best? Who keeps me steadfast as he is steadfast?”
My soul counsels me, “Only God.”
As I consider ways I am to renew and refresh, I remember seasons where I worked and parented, almost split in my heart. I made it a point to get out of the house weekly. Well, in a new season where I am home full-time (and getting to live my dream as a stay at home mom), I find that there are days, getting out is hard.
As a mama… my first line of refreshing is time with God. When I remember who I have: God, I am renewed. God’s word talks about outwardly I’m wasting away, but inwardly I am being renewed. It feels unlikely but it’s possible: to be renewed while being home more than I have ever been with more kids than I’ve ever had.
Action step: what are ways you can recharge while at home and around your children. Consider: sit and watch a show together, paint, draw, journal. (You don’t have to have young children to need rest, by the way! All of us are made to rest…)
Prayer: God, I thank you for this day. This is the day you have made, I will rejoice and be glad in it! Lord, as I am home in this season, please teach me to be home in my heart and soul. Open my eyes and heart to see you are with me. May I find ways to refresh so that I can be able to take care of my family to your glory and honor.
